- TIERS and classes -
- TIER ONE -
“pre-p.a.i.n.t.” CLASSROOM internship
(for FIRST-TIME INTERNS - open to all education majors)
INTERN OBSERVES/assistS a classroom teacher at a nearby school OR CHILDCARE CENTER
(20 hours at $10/hour)
Internship at a neighboring school site (in an Elementary or Middle School classroom) OR UW-Stout’s Child and Family Study Center (ages 0-2, pre-school, or 4K).
Meet individually with the PAINT Coordinator to select and confirm a school site and partner teacher.
Observe and assist a teacher in their classroom with students.
20 hours over the semester, as it works with the intern’s schedule.
Open to Stout education students of any level (freshmen through seniors).
The Tier 1 “Pre-PAINT” Internship is a pre-requisite for an “official” PAINT internship (Tier 2 or 3).
Interns may complete up to two Tier-One Internships within the same semester.
Interns may complete a Tier-One Internship in the same semester as a Tier-Two Internship.
- TIER TWO -
partnered internship
Intern is partnered with another uw-stout education major or mentor teacher to share teaching responsibilities for an art class in the community.
(40 hours AT $12/hour)
Applicants for Tier 2/3 internships indicate which art class they want to teach. If they have an idea for a class offering which is not listed on the application form (linked below), interns may suggest new class offerings for consideration.
Supplies for art classes are paid for by A.I.M.; and interns may request additional supplies as needed for the class.
Prerequisite: Must have completed or be completing a “Pre-PAINT” Internship.
Exception: Students who have completed a 20-hour (minimum) practicum requirement as part of their degree program may opt to skip the Tier One Pre-P.A.I.N.T. Internship prerequisite and apply for a Tier Two Internship.
- TIER THREE -
independent internship
INTERN TEACHES Independently, ASSUMING ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION of a community-based art class.
(40 hours at $14/hour)
Applicants for Tier 2/3 internships indicate which art class they want to teach. If they have an idea for a class offering which is not listed on the application form (linked below), interns may suggest new class offerings for consideration.
Supplies for art classes are paid for by A.I.M.; and interns may request additional supplies as needed for the class.
Prerequisite: Must have completed a Tier Two Internship.
Exception: UW-Stout education students in their 3rd or 4th year of their degree program who have completed at least two practicums as part of their university courses may apply for a Tier Three internship.
tier 2 or tier 3 INTERNSHIPS
DANCE OR CHEER

Ages: Grades 3-5 or Grades 6-8
Class size: 6-8 students
DESCRIPTION:
Intern teaches weekly creative movement classes (intern chooses style) at the after-school club to children in grades 3-5 (elementary school) or 6-8 (middle school)
MINDFULNESS facilitator
130 Heritage hall ; the Mindfulness Space
TIER 2: INDEPENDENT TEACHING INTERNSHIP (WITH MENTOR)
APPX. 3-5 HRS. PER WEEK
You set regular hours (usually 2 days per week), flexible with your schedule (preferably between 8am-4pm).
The best way to learn more about mindfulness practice is to practice and share it with others. In this PAINT internship, the intern works with mentor, Ann Brand (AIM Program Specialist for Mindfulness), to offer mindfulness practice in the Mindfulness Space of 130 Heritage Hall. The intern will also assist with moving and setting up and helping to design the new space. Activities for this internship include planning and facilitating weekly mindfulness practices, promoting the mindfulness activities, and sharing/developing mindfulness lesson plans. Position may also include coordinating special offerings and events (like mindful crocheting, painting, adult coloring books, etc.).
