What is your teaching experience so far?
I have had one P.A.I.N.T internship before last semester where I led a class in doing “Arts Around the World”. I also am a lead teacher during the summer at my hometown elementary school for a class of Kindergarteners and 1st graders. I also have experience in the classroom while participating in classes here at Stout where we get experience at the Child and Family Study Center.
What are you looking forward to about the class you will be teaching?
I am teaching the class, “Making Stories Come Alive”. I am really excited to teach this class so that I become more comfortable with creating art projects or movements by pulling details from books that I read to children, and then expanding on those ideas to come up with a creative project. I think it helps a child understand what is going on in a book if there is some sort of hands-on experience that goes along with it. I think this could be really helpful for me because I could be more comfortable with doing this and then start to incorporate the arts with literature more often in my future classrooms.
What do you hope to learn/gain from this experience?
I hope to gain more creative lessons that I could actually use in future classrooms. While participating in the P.A.I.N.T program, I have already learned that it really is so easy to include the arts to expand on any school subject to provide more hands-on learning. I also hope to improve my time management skills and knowing how to plan accordingly for any given lesson throughout my experience as a P.A.I.N.T intern.
