Kat Lund: Blog III

How have you grown as a teacher from this experience so far (skills, understanding, or knowledge gained) (lesson planning, classroom management, demonstrations, etc…)?

Yes, I believe I have grown, I have found out that I can think of a new idea on a drop of a dime. Working with the Boys and Girls Club has helped me learn to be flexible. I feel like I’ve gotten better with lesson plans and classroom management. I’m so proud of myself and I can’t wait to do it again, in another paint internship.

What new understandings do you have about children/education/your role in the classroom?

I’ve learned that you can’t always be the good guy, there are times where you can’t just let things go. For example, students screaming in the gym space or talking back. I’ve learned ways to deal with problems like that. For example, having a hand gesture that means be quiet. I also learned more about myself and what works best with me in my classroom course wise.

Has this experience made you more confident as a teacher? What made you happy about teaching this semester? Are you finding joy in this experience? (describe/explain)

I feel more confident as a teacher, yes. I got so many great ideas learning about myself and how much I can do within a classroom setting. The best part of teaching was seeing how excited the students are when they come into the classroom and see me and Leona. I have found so much joy in my Mondays and Wednesdays knowing I get to go and have fun with the students.
