Alyssa Boyer: Blog I

What is your teaching experience so far?

So far I have not started teaching yet. I have been rotating between the one year old room and the two year old room and trying to get to know the kids before I begin. I enjoy the fact that I get to be in the classroom for a week or two and not have to teach. This gives me the chance to get to know the children individually, and know how they learn best in their classroom. Knowing the way they work in their classroom can help me in planning my lessons. I have enjoyed being able to talk to the children and get to know each one of them on a personal level.

What are you looking forward to about the class you will be teaching?

I have worked in many different classroom settings and have never experienced much variety in the work I have done. I am looking forward to seeing how more of a daycare establishment differs from a school classroom. I do not have much experience with ages under four so I am looking forward to getting more experience with different age groups. I am excited to gain hands on experience with children and learn how I can improve as a future teacher.

What do you hope to learn/gain from this experience?

I am hoping I can learn some more about what is developmentally appropriate for different ages of children. I hope I will gain connections and become more comfortable with working with other adults in a professional setting. I want to learn what I can improve on and how I can do better. I have always been a person who is not always comfortable with new situations, so this experience will help me get out of my comfort zone. Through this internship and a full load of credits I am taking I will also be gaining experience with time management in college.
